"We don't make mistakes, we just have happy little accidents."

One of my fellow writers at FTTW, Dave in Texas came up with a great music video tribute to Bob Ross (October 29, 1942 – July 4, 1995), the talented and forever serene painter who hosted The Joy Of Painting on Public Television in the 80's and 90's. I never watched much TV, but I do remember spending more than a few afternoons shrouded in a certain sweet-smelling smoke, smiling along with Bob at happy little clouds, friendly trees, while waiting for that missing bush to magically appear.

-The title of this post is a wonderful and very typical quote from Bob.

That is so cool! I would love to do that back home:) If I was an artist, i'd risk a happy bob mural somewhere prominent.

Oh how I miss that sweet-smelling smoke...

Hope you're having a decent Father's Day Pirate.

The skunky-smelling kind was the ULTIMATE though. Made my mouth water...

Am I right?

Bob Ross was great. My favorite part of his show was when he'd step back, look at his painting and says something like "I'm going to do something really crazy (or radical)" and then he'd put a big ass tree right in front of whatever landscape he was painting. It always worked too.

I also loved the SNL skit they did spoofing him.

"Let's paint a few Viet Cong hiding in the trees. Just a few little bastards hiding there. ..... Now I'm going to get some napalm yellow ..."

That was classic! LOL

oops i just realized i didn't comment on this when you originally posted. why, you ask? well, after reading it and watching said video, i then hopped over to youtube and spent at least 1 hour watching classic bob ross episodes. it was wonderous. of course, this led to my brain being fried from all the calmness, and i forgot to comment.

so, my comment is, thanks for turning me back onto bob ross, who i totally believed was god when i was growing up.
